The action of the film “Swept Away” takes place against the background of the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. It is the most famous and controversial film by Lina Wertmuller about sex, love and politics. On an elegant yacht sailing off the coast of Sardinia, Raffaella (Mariangela Melato), a rich and beautiful capitalist, enjoys tormenting Gennarino (Giancarlo Giannini), a sailor-communist. Fate intertwines with another story, and the roles are reversed when the two heroes land on a desert island. Raffaella must surrender to Gennarino in order to survive. The dramatic finale is their rescue. They must see if their love will survive the harsh realities of civilization.
